My last Disney trip of 2021 is ‘in the can’. Done! Finito!
I get to be home 36 days straight before my next event!
But that does not mean I get to slouch.
The calendar continues to march towards the end of the year, with 2022 a mere 20 days away!
A few months ago, I asked you how your were doing on your 2021 goals. Here is the gist of that well thought out, beautifully written email:
The coup de grace of all dares; the sinister triple-dog-dare.
Narrator: Now it was serious. A double-dog-dare. What else was there but a “triple dare you”? And then, the coup de grace of all dares; the sinister triple-dog-dare.
Schwartz: I triple-dog-dare ya!
Narrator: Schwartz created a slight breach of etiquette by skipping the triple dare and going right for the throat!
Oh, how I love A Christmas Story! I watch it every year, and I still get a chuckle.
But the exchange between the narrator, Flick and Schwartz is not just for laughs, it is fraught with lessons on how to be more than you already are.
We all have goals, right?
You do have goals???
Oy!
Goals can be nebulous at best and at their worst, they are like biting into a piece of foil with your filling (go ahead, try that), while 1000 cats cry and scratch a blackboard.
But what about a challenge? A dare?
Recently, I dared myself (again) to give up texting. I had done it successfully a few years ago, but had fallen off the wagon and got sucked back into the black hole of electronic messaging.
But I had to dare myself.
Why?
Because it is how I get things done.
• Col. E.L. Daley got things done back in World War I. Before he departed for the war, he told his sons “Boys, your name is Daley, and Daley stands for getting things done”
• No longer will you step aside for crusaders, others shall step aside for you, because you are a crusader.
• You have the ability to do things.
• You know where you are going.
• The world makes way for the person who knows where they are going.
Do you know where you are going? What you stand for?
I stand for autonomy.
Making it on my own.
Communicating the way I want to, not the way others expect me to.
I hate texting. I hate group texts even more. If I have to see another picture of my niece with blueberries smeared on her face, and then endure 15 idiot friends with nothing better to do than comment on said picture, I may just throw the phone away.
I email. I use the phone (did you know that feature was on your smart device?). I might FB or LI message, but only if I see it in my email.
Daring is audacious.
Daring is big.
Daring can be controversial.
But winning a dare is one of the most thrilling moments in my life. They said it could not be done. Well, just watch me. I dare me to do it.
So, I dare you.
No.
I triple dog dare you (please excuse the breach of etiquette) to do something today!
I dare you to give something up that will make your life better. Smoking? Sugar? A toxic relationship?
I dare you to start doing something today that will make your life infinitely better.
