3 drag queens and a 300 pound Tinkerbell enter an elevator

3 drag queens and a 300 pound Tinkerbell enter an elevator

Quote by Christopher Hitchens: “The one unforgivable sin is to be boring”

A couple of weeks ago, on the first leg of my world tour, I stayed at a hotel in downtown Orlando, Florida. I got on the elevator to go up to my room. On the first stop, a ginormous Tinkerbell got on the elevator. She was followed by 3 drag queens. Evidently there was some festival in town and they were sharing our hotel. (If you really want to know, it was the Electric Daisy Festival, and it brought out some real characters)

Right after the drag queens got on, the center for the Memphis Grizzlies NBA team got on the elevator. The Grizzlies were in town to play the Orlando Magic.

Try as I might, I could not get my camera out fast enough to get a picture of the scene. Picture this: 3 sashaying men in drag, a woman (I think) who was every bit of 300 pounds dressed as a fairy, an NBA star who towered over all of us at 7 feet 6 inches and me.

What a sight!

What does this rag tag motley crew have to do with your business?

EVERYTHING!

You see, I knew, at that moment on the elevator, that this scene was going to make a great marketing message for both of my businesses. Heck, it got you to read this email!

You never want to be boring in your marketing. What might be interesting to you, is not interesting to your clients, prospects or patients.

For example, say you are a Physical Therapist. You just got a new machine to help your patients and you want to let them know the news.

Most therapists would talk about the features of the new machine with its’ 2000 pounds of torque, discombubilator valve and a upgraded flux capacitor. Interesting to you, not your patient.

But, a “marketing minded” therapist might say “I was on an elevator with 3 drag queens, etc., on my way to training on a new machine that will help reduce your pain and shorten your time in therapy. In fact the center for the Memphis Grizzlies was on the elevator as well. He has personally used this new machine and loves it.”

Get their attention, then tell your story. DO NOT BE BORING!

Always be on the look out for stories you can use in your business. They are everywhere if you keep your eyes open. Remember the bird eating fish story from last week? My point exactly.

My challenge to you. Create a marketing message to your clients or prospects using something odd that has happened in your life. Lead a boring life? Feel free to swipe my subject lie above and then create the message.

Then send me an email with what you did! I will send you a very cool Disney prize that cannot be found anywhere else on the internet except from me.

Remember, you won’t profit unless you implement,

Vance “I lead an interesting life” Morris

P.S. I got a great email from Allen Eshmoili, PT telling me about a great marketing tactic he uses in his practice. He is last weeks winner of the cool Disney prize. I hope he doesn’t mind me sharing it. Click here for the awesome video
