From the Far Eastern Shore of Maryland
Hey ,
The other day I saw a somewhat disturbing video.
The video showed what appeared to be a live octopus being served for a meal.
In the video, soy sauce was poured on the octopus’ tentacles causing them to move.
It turns out that the octopus was recently killed, so although its brain functions weren’t intact, the tissues still responded to stimuli.
The video prompted a discussion about our fixed ideas about what is acceptable and what isn’t.
When was the last time you had a dish of octopus?
If you answered “not recently” or “never,” my guess is you haven’t eaten any bugs lately either. In the U.S., we use lots of words to describe bugs, but “yummy” isn’t generally one of them.
However, in many countries eating bugs is considered pretty normal. In cultures such as Africa, Asia, and South America, bugs are a main source of protein. In fact, according to a U.N. report, 2 billion people around the world consider insects a delicacy or even a dietary staple.
Not only that, insects are generally high in nutritional value and beat out both meat and fish in protein content and quality. They’re rich in fiber and healthy micronutrients too—which is why the U.N. says insects make the ideal food for the future.
I’m guessing that eating scorpions, ants, centipedes, and worms probably doesn’t sound ideal to you. So why do we have different ideas about what is delicious? It’s our fixed ideas about what is gross and what is healthy.
Food isn’t the only place our fixed ideas get in the way though.
Fixed ideas can also get in the way of creating and pricing products and services that fall into what we’re calling the “stupid spending” category.
Some of the fixed ideas that can get in your way are:
· No one will spend that much.
· My product or service isn’t worth that much.
· There are more important things for people to spend their money on.
The thing is…
You can almost always find someone charging (and getting) more than what you are.
The only person limiting your value is you.
And people will always spend money on what THEY desire, even if it seems unappetizing or less important to YOU.
What fixed ideas are holding you back from carrying higher priced products or services in your business?
I’ve got a lot more to discuss on the topic of how to get prospects to turn their stupid spending habits ‘on’ in your business.
But this strategy is only available to Insider Circle members. And due to the holiday tomorrow and the printing schedule, this month’s XPerience Intensive Master Class is only being made available today.
Don’t worry, I won’t make you eat bugs, but you will have the strategies you need to get your prospects to spend ‘stupid money’ with you.
