No I am not talking about the ‘rona of 2020.
I am talking about “zoomititis”, ‘rona’s nasty step-cousin.
It is afflicting millions, if not billions of people around the globe.
The young are not immune. They have zoom school instruction. Most of the kids are NOT under parental supervision and are simultaneously playing xbox while the teacher is prattling on about the finer points of “The Catcher in The Rye”.
Business executives show up to zoom in a shirt and tie, but no pants.
Zoomititis is pretending to pay attention to the speaker, while doing something else.
But zoomititis is not just limited to zoom meetings. It has bled over into live in-person events.
As I mentioned, I am in Cleveland listening to one of the great marketers of our time; Dan Kennedy.
We are in the presence of greatness.
He is imparting wisdom that can change our businesses.
Then why, oh why, are 25% of the audience burying their faces in their dumb phones?
Remember yesterday’s email about missed opportunities?
That 25% just had 50 opportunities fly right by them.
They weren’t missed opportunities, they were ignored.
It is like a home security company NOT trying to sell security systems right after a burglary in the neighborhood.
How about you?
Do you try to do two things at once and end up doing neither very well?
Here it is plain and simple, pay attention.
If you sign up for an online training, do the training. Not check facebook.
If you attend a live event, pay attention. You paid good money to be there, why would you squander that investment by checking your social media?
If you are in a conversation with a loved one, pay attention. Anything less and you are not showing your love.
Our break is ending, so I am headed back to listen to Dan.
I am not missing or ignoring any opportunities.
