You must be vigilant in your discrimination of WHO you listen to. Who you let into your life. Who has sway over you.
But I would also add... Beware the IDIOT Wizard
Vance Picks A Fight With An Idiot Wizard
I came across an article this morning... well actually... it was just two sentences masquerading as an article. Here it is in all of its brief glory:

New Marketing? What the Donald Duck is New Marketing? Like new math?
Only going back to the 1960's? How very shortsighted! Marketing and advertising go back millions of years, ya schlep!
Think... The 10 Commandments. Moses comin' down the hill with the stone tablets...
If Moses didn't have a good speech to go with the tablets. they may have been whittled down to 10 suggestions, not commandments

Beware the Idiot Wizard
First, marketing is, has been and always will be king.
You could have a 1000 great experiences in your business, but if you don't market and advertise, you will never get to 1001.
Which is why I as soon as I mastered creating experiences for my customers, I started to create experiences for my prospects...
Through Results Required Marketing. (fka Direct response Marketing)
The experience with your company starts with the prospects experience with your marketing.
If your marketing experience sucks, you will never see the prospect come through the front door.
Which is how I got the wizardly title of The Only Experience & Direct Response Marketing Strategist On The Planet!
But he does bring up a good point, though it took him 31 words to get it across... It's called congruency.
But that too, has been around for millennia.
Do what you say you are going to do.
Don't market luxury if you deliver a Wal Mart experience.
I pointed all this out to the Idiot Wizard. He double downed on his statement with a lame, blasphemous response of "marketing is not important"
Idiot Wizard.
This is the same guy who sent me his book on experiences in a manila envelope wrapped in masking tape.
Congruency!
