Crafty cockatoos master dumpster diving

A study in the journal Science says the gregarious birds mostly learned new behaviors by observing their peers.

A few years ago, a scientist with the Australia Museum noticed a cockatoo opening his trash can. Not every resident would be thrilled, but ornithologist Richard Major was impressed by the birds ingenuity.

It is quite a feat for a bird to grasp a bin’s flip lid with its beak, pry it open, then shuffle far enough along the edge of the container so that the lid falls backwards, revealing the edible treasures inside.

Intrigued, Major teamed up with researchers in Germany to study how many cockatoos had learned the trick.

In early 2018, they found from a survey of residents that birds in three Sydney suburbs had mastered the foraging technique. By the end of 2019, birds were lifting trash can lids in 44 suburbs.

From three suburbs to 44 in two years is a pretty rapid spread,” said Major.

The researchers’ next question was whether the cockatoos had figured out how to do this alone – or whether they had copied the strategy from more experienced birds.

And their research published on Thursday in the journal Science concluded the birds mostly learned by watching their peers.

Which brings me to your really smart and crafty peers here at DSNi (The Deliver Service Now institute). Dozens of DSNi Cast Members took me up on my Minnie Toolkit offer earlier this week. Which BTW is no longer available.

  • They took action (a worthy trait to copy)
  • They did not hesitate (another worthy trait)
  • And they certainly did not sit there saying “Why should I copy Disney? I don’t have a roller coaster, a theme park or characters“.

The question you should always be asking is “How does this apply to me?” opposed to “this does not apply”.

With this shift in thinking, a whole new world of opportunity opens up.

My best DSNi Inner Circle Members know and ask this question all of the time, “How does this apply to me?” and then take action.

My DSNi Inner Circle Cast Members are worthy of being studied, their ideas copied and adapted to your business or niche.

But you can only do this if you are an Inner Circle Cast Member. And until midnight tonight (EST) you can join their ranks for just a buck for your first month. You can take care of that here:

Oh, If you have to dumpster dive like the Australian cockatoo’s to survive life, this is NOT for you. Also, do not place your order after midnight tonight EST. It will not be honored and I will be forced to mail you your dollar back.

Remember, you won’t profit unless you implement,
