In the end, it was perhaps a galaxy too far away. Walt Disney World’s ambitious but ultra-pricey Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, the $1,200-per-person-per-night experience, is being blasted like the Death Star for good at the end of September.
First teased in 2017 at the company’s D23 Expo for Disney superfans, the project always defied categorization. Is it a hotel, a landlocked cruise ship, or an elaborate choose-your-own-adventure theatrical experience? All of the above.
“For more than 100 years, Disney has taken risks to be on the forefront of entertainment experiences,” said a Walt Disney World spokesperson. “We are constantly pushing the boundaries of creativity and innovation, and evolve our experiences based on key learnings.”
Guests who can afford to shell out big bucks — just over $4,800 for a couple or $6,000 for a family of four — love the all-inclusive two-night experience, giving it some of the highest guest satisfaction ratings in the 50-year history of Walt Disney World.
The problem is that, apparently, not enough guests can afford it.
But that failure is not stopping Disney
On June 29, the Disney Wish was officially christened into the Disney Cruise Line fleet, and members of the press were invited on board to get a first glimpse of what the first Triton-Class ship had to offer. That tour included a look-in on the new staterooms, pool deck, and a $5,000 cocktail.
Yep, the adult-focused Star Wars Hyperspace Lounge features a drink known as the Kaiburr Crystal. Named after the Kyber Chrystals, the priceless gem that is at the heart of every lightsaber, this drink costs $5,000.
This pricey drink is nothing new regarding fine Disney dining experiences. Every high-end sit-down restaurant at the Walt Disney World Resort, for example, features high-end wine and liquor offerings that exceed even this out-of-this-world price.
Push The Pricing Boundary
Every business MUST have a what I call a Whopper.
No, not the Burger King variety.
A service or product that is your highest priced item. One.. that if someone bought it, would make you feel all giddy inside and start giggling with joy.
