From Under A Cloud of Mosquito Repellant on the Far Eastern Shore of Maryland
Hey ,
It was bound to happen.
Two holidays have collided.
I mean Santa doesn't encroach on the Easter Bunny's day.
The Great Pumpkin stays in his patch on Baby New Year's day.
So why can't the mosquito's have a different day that National Eat Outside Day.
Yep!
Today's calendar indicates that it is both World Mosquito Day and National Eat Outside Day.
Whoops.
But no matter. It might as well be any other Thursday for the owners of pest control companies, outdoor furniture stores and stores that sell grills. Not a one celebrating either day.
Heck, there are stores that sell mosquito-killin'-stuff, outdoor furniture and grills in my area and none of them are celebrating today with a promotion or sale.
They could even have a contest: Stick a customer in a room full of swarming mosquitos and tell them to kill as many of the critters they could with their bare hands in a minute. At the end of the day, whoever killed the most pests wins a grill.
Advertise it in the papers, on social media, invite the press and a few local politicians.
Total Costs?
Just think about all the crap they could sell that day. Not to mention all the free publicity they would get. Sales would be booomin!
Let's say they sold a few grills, some mosquito netting and a patio set as a result of the contest. Let's be conservative and say they could attribute $5000 in sales to the event.
That is a 20:1 ROI
For every dollar spent on the promotion, they made $20 in sales.
Geez... How hard was that ?
It took me all of 27 seconds to think up that promo.
I can hear you now... But Vance, I am not creative. I don't own a store that sells grills. I am afraid of bugs. But my business is different!
Pfui!
