From Rehoboth Beach Delaware
Hey ,
Back to school!
Hard to believe my two youngest kids are going to be a sophomore and junior this year. Time is just a whizzing by…
Yesterday was Emma’s day for shopping for new threads for school. You’d think that attending a private school that has a dress code would make this easy?
No way Jose
Did you know there are over 127,000 shades of khaki skirts? I sh*t you not! and it DOES matter which hue you get. “Dad…” was all Emma had to say with a look of disdain that said I had no fashion sense at all and to make me wish I was in the brewery next door.
We hit a couple stores and came up empty. Too long (said Emma). Too short (said dad)
Then we hit Hollister.
I thought this was supposed to be a pretty hip store. It might have been, under this piles of dust, dirt, heaps of clothing, overflowing buckets of hangers and employees with no desire to serve a customer, let alone pay attention to one.
Goodwill and Walmart clothing racks are more organized than this place. Imagine heaps upon heaps of mismatched skirts, tops, pants and socks.
Under the counters… decades of dust boulders (these long ago ceased to be mere bunnies.
This was not a dumpster fire only 1-2 days in the making. This place has been neglected for weeks, if not months.
Overseeing this dump were 4 employees.
- One sitting at a register (though not ever actually operating the register) having a shouting match with another employee across the store about who was more “Emo”. WTF is Emo?
- One employee watching the shouting employees like she was at a Wimbledon tennis match.
- And one employee actually manning a register, though the term ‘working’ could hardly be applied to him.
None of them could even remotely be considered to be in charge.
When Emma wanted to try something on, the Wimbledon spectator employee gave her a look that said “Hey, you’re interrupting my viewing of the match“.
Since this was Emma’s shopping trip, I did not make a scene, nor did I insist that we leave. Though i was close as we waited 16 minutes to make our purchase from the one guy operating a register.
And don’t think I was letting him off the hook since he was giving the appearance of working.
What’s this have to do with your business?
Honestly, I hope nothing
But, it has everything to do with it.
- What are your employees doing when you are not there?
- When was the last time you inspected your business from top to bottom?
