Just when you thought it could not get any weirder… (I will have a business strategy in a sec, I promise)
Some dingbat media outlet in San Francisco has their dwarf’s in a bunch over the ending of Disneyland’s attraction Snow White’s Enchanted Wish.
“The new grand finale of Snow White’s Enchanted Wish is the moment when the Prince finds Snow White asleep under the Evil Queen’s spell and gives her “true love’s kiss” to release her from the enchantment,” the outlet writes. “A kiss he gives to her without her consent, while she’s asleep, which cannot possibly be true love if only one person knows it’s happening.”
“Haven’t we already agreed that consent in early Disney movies is a major issue? That teaching kids that kissing, when it hasn’t been established if both parties are willing to engage, is not OK?,”
Me and half of my kindergarten class would have been sent to Juvie if this nerferder had his way.
He sounds like a corporate attorney negotiating a settlement.
Hasn’t this reporter ever been on a date when the “big moment” was to arrive? That moment when you get knots and butterflies before you plant a little smooch and then wait to see what happens…
- Does she reciprocate?
- Or does she recoil in horror?
Now you know.
Usually only one person does know it is going to happen.
I mean, was ol’ Prince Charming just supposed to poke her with a stick? Not very theatrical….
Walt Disney was always one to take risks.
- Creating the first full length feature animated film
- Knowing what the public wanted, and always giving it to them.
Walt also made mistakes.
He had 7 real dwarf’s on the roof of the theater when Snow White premiered. That was not his mistake.
His mistake was giving the dwarf’s food and booze while they were up there.
He now had 7 drunk dwarf’s. (Disney’s unannounced sequel to Snow White)
But Walt recovered from it and moved on.
My point here (I told you I would get to it), is that having detractors, critics or just people that generally hate you is good for business.
- They provide fodder for emails, press releases and books
- Positioned properly, you can be the hero vanquishing your evil nemesis, making the rest of your herd cheer you on.
- Your herd will come to your rescue if they see a critic trying to beat you up
And it is good for business. Disney’s stock is up 0.85 cents on the news.
