Just when you thought you heard everything, along comes a news story that will just blow your mind.
A case in point:
The Oregon Department of Education is encouraging teachers to take a course on "dismantling racism in mathematics".
The course instructs that the "focus on getting the 'right' answer" and students being "required to 'show their work'." are actually "toxic characteristics of white supremacy culture".
Teachers will be told not to "perpetuate objectivity" by "upholding the idea that there are always right and wrong answers." (The Week, 2/26/21)
Well Donald Duck! I had no idea that there are right and wrong answers in math! When does 2+2 not equal 4?
Karens are having a rough year.
Over the past few months, the “Karen” meme that started out as mocking a fairly specific brand of white woman — an anti-vaxxer mom with an entitlement complex and “can I speak to the manager” hair — has undergone several rapid transitions.
The name “Karen” has subsequently become virtually synonymous with more than just annoyed moms. Now, “Karen” is a stand-in for 2020’s fraught social politics.
But it was a good week for "Karens" with the formation of a Facebook support group for women cursed with that now demonized name. The group will help members bear the burden of Karen-ism, and encourage a wider culture of compassion that supports all human beings regarless of what their name is. (LA Times)
You see, there is a group for everyone.
Finally, it was a good week for Rich B*tches, after Lulu, a border collie from Nashville, was left $5 million by her wealthy owner. Lulu will be cared for by a friend of the deceased owner who said that while it will be hard to spend that much money on the dog, "She is happy to try". (Time, 2/28/21)
With 2 ex-wives and 4 kids, the dog might be my best bet!
What do these three stories have to do with your business?
- They are great fodder for emails / articles to your clients
- There are people nuttier than we are
- Humans naturally create their own groups (Whacky and otherwise). You just need to find the groups where your prospects are hanging out.
- Enter the conversation that is already happening in their mind: The Robert Collier principle.
- Create promotions around the news stories. (37% off for everyone named Karen or Bob or Stan)
- You can create your very own group for people / prospects to join.
The point is, look around you. Stories are happening everywhere, ready for you to snatch them and make money with them.
