Considered one of Cable TVs original break out hits, TNT’s “The Closer” had a great run from 2005 to 2013. In it, Deputy Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson (portrayed by Kyra Sedgwick) heads up the Major Crimes Division of the LA Police Department. Intelligent, determined, exacting, Johnson’s a master at nailing down the facts, wrangling confessions from the guilty, and closing down open cases.
Thus – she’s given the title of “THE CLOSER.”
The ability to CLOSE is also the high calling of every salesperson. If you can’t close the deal, you won’t last long in the business.
But even if you can’t close the actual “sale” in a customer interaction, there’s plenty of other opportunities to “CLOSE” – for instance:
- You can CLOSE on getting full contact information – invaluable for following up later on.
- You can CLOSE on making an appointment to meet at a later, more appropriate time.
- You can CLOSE on a conditional sale, where if certain conditions are proven / met, the deal can get done.
You should always approach every customer interaction with the goal of closing on SOMETHING that will lead further down the path to commerce. Make sure your salespeople get this message and take it to heart.
