Hey ,
The last stumpy piece of cake.
That's what was waiting for me while attending a birthday party. You know, that piece of cake that barely resembles a triangle and looks like it was cut by a first grader....
I was about to grab that cake when some recent-college-graduate-leftist-clown started complaining how he always got the stumpy piece of cake and that it was completely unfair.
I asked him why he didn't just:
- Get in line sooner
- bump off the 90 year old lady ahead of him
- be happy it was a small piece, since his waistline indicated he has eaten many-a-cake in his life
OK.. so I didn't ask him the 3rd one.
Later, I overheard him lamenting that he still didn't get his free government money to pay off his student loans. Bemoaning the fact that it is unfair that he had to wait for someone else (me) to pay off the debt he accumulated.
(This is why I do NOT go to parties)
There is a growing perception that capitalism is inherently unjust because it produces unequal results.
Well no shyt!
The truth is, the world’s most successful nations today owe their prosperity to entrepreneurs and business owners. You, as a small business owner, are responsible for facilitating innovation and stimulating economic growth.
As such, market outcomes are based on principles like supply and demand where those with the most productive ideas earn a larger share of income than those who are less creative or innovative.
Please see my cake reference above.
This kind of inequality is necessary for progress. If everyone had equal access to resources and opportunities, there would be no incentive to innovate or follow-through on ideas. It is the pursuit of inequality that drives us to create new technologies, businesses, and ways of living.
When it comes to ensuring fairness in market outcomes, governments have a responsibility to get OUT OF THE WAY. They do not need to foster an equitable playing field and provide safety nets for those who are disadvantaged. All that does is take what I earned and give it someone dumber than me.
Capitalism is not about creating an equal system but rather one that encourages individual effort, and rewards it with wealth. This kind of inequality is fair because it distributes resources based on merit and provides incentives to work hard. If everyone was given an equal share of resources regardless of their efforts there would be little incentive to work hard or strive for success.
