No not that… Get your head out of the gutter.
Think back to a fantastic memory.
Maybe it is you wedding day? The day your divorce was final? Your first kiss? The excitement of meeting your favorite movie star?
Do you have it in your mind?
Who was with you? Angelina Jolie, The Pope, Your grandmother?
What were the colors around you? Can you recall in vivid terms the colors of the season? Maybe fireworks?
What did you smell? A fresh baked meal? Your true loves hair? The salt of the ocean?
What did you hear? A crowd cheering at a ball game? Whispers in your ear? The gentle breeze and crashing waves?
I remember the first time my band was playing in front of a large crowd. And I mean big! About 7,000 people.
If you remember the 80’/90’s band “The Outfield”, we were their opening act in Springfield, MA back in 1989. Over half of the crowd was there to see us. How do I know? For one thing, about half of the arena emptied out after our 45 minute set.
The other thing was the decibel levels. Our sound technician took a picture of the decimeter (it measures loudness) when we took the stage and compared it to The Outfields; the crowds cheer when we took the stage was 19db louder than the main act!
I remember the smells of the green room; hair spray (theirs, not ours), stale beer, and lasagna from the buffet.
I remember the seeing and hearing an arena full of people cheering us, the brightness and blazing hot stage lights.
It was the first time my divorced parents were in the same room together in 15 years, just to see me play. (OK they were on opposite sides of the stage, but it was the same room. Hey this is my memory, let me remember it the way I want).
I did not get the tingle in my skin until our drummer counted off the first song, the clicking of his drum sticks, the first power chord from the guitar, the stage vibrating, and the cheer from the audience.
That is a memory I will cherish forever.
Memories are also what separates Disney from all of the other amusement parks. People don’t go there just for a vacation, they go there to create memories.
Your clients might remember your business. What will they be saying? Will they be going to their friends an neighbors exclaiming “You will never guess what happened at the car wash today!” like a 10 year old seeing Disney World the first time?
Or will they forget the experience the minute they leave your store, exit your website or hang up the phone?
The choice on experience is yours.
