Which Half of Your Advertising is Wasted?

There’s a famous quote from a man considered by some to be the father of modern advertising, John Wanamaker.

A pioneer in marketing, he may have been the first retailer to place a half-page newspaper ad (1874) and a full page ad (1879). It’s also presumed that he invented the “money back guarantee” – now standard procedure for just about every business.

He’s credited with this still-applicable observation:

Half the money I spend on advertising is wasted; the trouble is, I don’t know which half.”
